Preview; Bruins look to get back on track against Isles

February 17, 2011

After a tough home-and-home series against the Red Wings, the Leafs seemed like the perfect matchup for the Bruins. But the motivation and skill didn’t translate and now the Bruins are riding a three-game losing streak. Luckily for the Bruins, they will face the Islanders tonight and the Senators on Friday night in an effort to get back on the winning track as they start a six-game road trip.

The Islanders are 14th in the East but are also riding a four-game winning streak and have won six of eight this month. The Islanders haven’t scored fewer than four goals during their winning streak. However, as good as the offense has been lately the Islanders defense has skated by with some subpar performances. The Isles haven’t given up fewer than three goals in their last seven games as their goaltending situation reaches the depths of the AHL roster.

The Bruins defense and goaltending haven’t exactly faired much better of late. The Bruins have given up 20 goals in their last four games, three of which have been losses. It seems that Tim Thomas is finally cooling off. He hasn’t looked particularly stellar in his last few go-arounds which means that Tuukka Rask is going to have to step up and play better in order to get Thomas some rest as the playoffs inch closer. With games on back-to-back nights, expect to see each goalie make a start.

Chris Kelly may not suit up for this game because he is having visa problems.
