Random Thoughts from the Bruins 6-5 Game 2 victory

May 17, 2011

The Tyler Seguin debate is officially over. 2G 2A tonight and 3G 3A in two games. Fun fact: Patrice Bergeron led the Bruins in points coming into tonight’s game with 12 points in 11 games. Seguin halved that in two games. Unreal story for the kid. His playoff beard still sucks though. That’s about the only knock I have on him right now.

So who does Claude sit? Can’t be Paille or Soupie because they’re great PKers. Must be Thornton. Sorry but 5 minutes and a diminished physical role is the first thing to cut in this series. Did you see Paille’s forecheck on one of the 1st period kills? Killed off 20-25 seconds by himself. Something the B’s need a lot of this series.

I don’t know why but Ryder and Seguin are locked in as linemates right now. Ryder has led Seguin to two breakaway goals and even got some goals assisted by Seguin tonight. It’s nice to see these two goal-scorers working well together.

Rich Peverley had himself a game. You may not have noticed all of it but the man dominated at the dot tonight 15-of-20 with Bergeron out of the lineup was huuuge.

Julien played Seguin in the final two minutes of the game with the Bolts going full steam ahead. I don’t understand this coach. He doesn’t play him in entire third periods then he plays him in that chaos?! I quit trying to understand Julien.

Tim Thomas had a weird game tonight. Some of the goals he let in were soft, even indefensible, but he also had a number of huge saves on breakaways and in traffic. If he was better it could have been a comfortable win but if he was any worse it would have been a loss.

The second liners of Marchand and Recchi had about 13 minutes tonight and so did the third line of Seguin and Ryder putting a ton of pressure on the first line. Krejci had 24+ minutes and Lucic and Horton had 20 and 19 minutes. They didn’t produce but played well when they needed to. Bergeron’s return (hopefully in Game 3) should lessen that responsibility.

I admit it: Kaberle had a pretty good game. He actually shot on the power-play, had some good hard shots actually and notched two assists tonight. Claude kept his minutes down, which also helps in the +/- department for him.
